"It's clear that something has changed, and it's happening in a way that hasn't been seen since the advent of precise radio astronomy in the 1970s," he said.
It is noted that if the days continue to shorten, scientists will have to subtract one second from the atomic clock. This will be the first negative correction of Scorpios in history.
Since 1972, the scientific world has accepted the practice of adding a leap second. It is added to align the Universal Time Coordinated (UTC) scale with the mean solar time UT1. So far seconds have been added and never subtracted.
