A resident of Illinois won $1.28 billion in the "Mega Millions" lottery.
The name of the winner is unknown. State laws allow participants who win more than $250,000 to keep their names and addresses confidential.
It is noted that this is the second biggest win since the lottery was created in 1996.
An American who wins the jackpot can either take the entire amount over 29 years, or take out a total of $747 million immediately. In the second case, after paying taxes, he will have $457.5 million.
