As the nightmare of the monkeypox virus spreads rapidly, the World Health Organization has issued an important warning, especially for pregnant women. The WHO statement reports that four pregnant women have contracted the disease so far, and it is also recommended to stay away from people showing flu-like symptoms.
After the monkeypox virus was discovered in Turkey, how the disease progressed in pregnant women began to be met with interest. Although the monkeypox virus has been known for more than 50 years, it has recently come to the fore due to its observation outside of Africa.
In the short time since its discovery in London in May 2022, about 3,500 people in more than 50 countries have been infected and one person has died. This has created concerns that a new pandemic may start all over the world. In this regard, the WHO has warned about those in the high risk group, which also includes pregnant women.
Gynecology and obstetrics specialist prof. dr. Faruk Buyru noted that the disease first manifested itself with fever, back and muscle pain.
